Our Vision: Children and young people in NSW live in safe environments
Children and young people should be safe in their environments.
Their experiences of safety and crime influence them and this can have lasting consequences.
Safe environments reduce children and young people's fear and actual harm.
Making unsafe situations safe protects children and young people, allowing them to grow.
Children and young people who engage in criminal behaviour tend to be involved in minor offences and their behaviour is short-lived.
For a small group crime and contact with the criminal justice system becomes a way of life, limiting their work options and isolating them from their social supports.
The aspects of safety and crime looked at on Kids' Stats include:
"We should be able to feel secure in our surroundings and with our friends. We shouldn't have to come across crime or feel like we're in danger." (Girl, 15)
