About public transport
Not enough ways to get around (including buses, trains and cars) was a concern for kids. Kids sometimes felt that this meant they couldn't do all the things they wanted to do in their community and neighbourhoods. Young people use public transport a lot and want public transport to be safe, reliable and not cost too much.
About being active
There were lots of different views on being active. More kids talked about playing and having fun, but they also spoke about organised sport. Kids said sport was healthy and good for relieving stress. Kids and said they needed spaces for playing sports.
About safety
Children and young people often told us about the need to feel safe in their environment. They do not feel safe around people who behave ‘strangely’ or people using drugs and alcohol. They sometimes worry that strangers might hurt them.
About communities
People and relationships help kids feel part of a good community. Being around friendly people, knowing your neighbours, having friends close by, and having a lots of different sorts of people around are important.
About facilities
Kids say that good communities also have good facilities - like playgrounds and shops. Most important are parks, schools, shops, libraries and swimming pools – the places where they spend a lot of time.
