The Child Death Review Team has examined the deaths of 565 children that occurred over the period January to December 2009.
The Child Death Review Team has examined the deaths of 565 children that occurred over the period January to December 2009.
Some of the other findings of the Child Death Review Team 2009 Annual Report include:
- Seven children drowned in private swimming pools - five incidents involved either faulty or inappropriate pool fencing, or pool gates being propped open.
- 13 children died as passengers in the context of risk-taking by an adult.
- 17 children and young people aged 12-17 years died by suicide, with five using a mobile to inform a friend of their intention to suicide.
- 44 infants died suddenly and unexpectedly (5 neonatal; 39 post-neonatal) – more than 40% of post-neonatal infants were placed in an unsafe sleeping position.
