  • ATC - Prescription and over the counter medications          document PDF Document (87 KB)
    07 Jan 2002
How do children and young people understand prescriptions and directions when medication is prescribed? What do they understand about the effects of over the counter medications? What about performance enhancing substances? How do they feel about their experiences with their doctor, pharmacist, teacher or their sports coach when taking medication?

The NSW Commission for Children and Young People has asked over 70 children and young people about their views and use of prescription and over the counter medications.

The children and young people voiced several issues about General Practitioners (GPs) and their work with kids. While young people usually begin to visit doctors by themselves between the ages of 14-17 years, they want to be involved in discussions about their health from a much earlier age.
